Molecular Quantum Mechanics - Analytic Gradients and Beyond


An International Conference in Honor of Professor Peter Pulay

General Information

The MQM2007 conference will have oral lectures presented by invited speakers, see a separate list, and posters presented by all interested participants. The oral presentations are organized according to the sessions represented by the Historical Talks. A special poster session is being organized for the Session Chairs. We encourage everyone to submit abstracts related to the posters as soon as possible but not later than March 15, 2007.

Dates

The MQM2007 Conference will take place between 29 May - 3 June 2007.

Currently the Conference will start at 17:00 on 29 May 2007 with a lecture by Professor William A. Goddard. The conference will end at 13:30 on 3 June 2007 with the lecture by Professor Peter Pulay. A more complete timeline will be provided shortly.

The deadline for submitting the abstracts is March 15, 2007. Please note that only those participants will have their abstracts printed in the Book of Abstracts who paid their registration fees by the time the book goes to print.

Conference Papers

Conference papers will be published in the journal Molecular Physics. All conference papers should be submitted electronically with a clear indication that they are intended for the Peter Pulay Special Issue of Molecular Physics. Papers should be submitted before 1 June 2007.

Conference Venue

The Conference will be held in Budapest, on Margaret Island at Danubius Health Spa Resort Hotel (1138 Budapest, Margitsziget).

The hotel is situated in the calm and picturesque surroundings of Margaret Island, in the heart of Budapest. Only minutes away from the centre of the capital. The island, which stretches for 4 kilometres, is a protected leafy botanical parkland with ancient trees, a Japanese Garden, a Rose Garden, an open-air amphitheatre and walking and jogging tracks.

The hotel has one of Europe's top Health Spas, offering a newly designed pool area with both indoor and outdoor pools, sun terrace, whirlpool, Jacuzzi, thermal bath, medical gymnastics, sauna, steam and aroma cabin, solarium. The Spa area and the therapies offered are based on the utilisation of three of the island's natural thermal springs.

Weather

As Hungary has continental climate, the beginning of June is also the beginning of the summer. The average temperature is 18-25°C during the day and 14-18°C at night. The humidity is usually low, but rainy days may be expected.

How to reach the venue

Arrival by air

Participants arriving at Ferihegy International Airport can choose from the following possibilities:

The Airport Shuttle Minibus is a shuttle service to hotels running every 10 minutes with approx. 5-6 persons. Fare: one way ticket is approx.: EURO 10.-/person , return ticket approx. EURO 15.-/person.

Metropolitan bus No. 200 (blue) also leaves from the terminal building for Kõbánya-Kispest metro station, where you may take metro line No. 3 (blue line) to the centre of the city, Western (Nyugati) railway station.

Taxis are also available &mdsh; the airport taxi company is called Zona taxi. They have fixed rates according to zones within the city. Maximum fare in 2006 is approx. EURO 14.-. Taxis are not equipped with credit card readers and accept only Hungarian Forints. Currency can be changed at the airport.

Arrival by train

There are 3 major international railway stations in Budapest (Deli railway station, Keleti railway station and Nyugati railway station), located in the city centre and within easy reach of the congress hotels either by public transport or by taxi.

Parking

Parking is available in the open air parking area in front of the congress venue or at the garage of the hotel. In Budapest parking is not free in the city center, signs indicate the parking zones.

Public transportation to the Conference venue

The Congress site can be reached easily by public transport. Margaret Island is closed for cars, vehicles must park in the parking area belonging to the Conference venue. Only public trasportation is allowed on the island - bus Nr. 26 runs along the island between Western (Nyugati) Railway station and Arpad Bridge.

From Hotel Hilton Westend there is a direct access by bus Nr. 26.

From Hotel Medosz: the Western (Nyugati) railway station can be reached from the hotel by tram No. 4 or Nr. 6, where you need to change to bus Nr. 26.

From City Hotel Ring there is direct access by bus Nr. 26.

Tickets must be purchased in advance at tobacco shops or metro stations.

Banking / Exchange facilities

The official currency in Hungary is the Hungarian Forint. Though Hungary is a member of the European Union, only a few shops and restaurants accept Euros (EUR) for payment. Therefore, the exchange of your currency to Hungarian Forints or the use of ATM machines is strongly suggested. Visa, Diners, Eurocard/Mastercard are accepted in hotels, restaurants and city stores, but it is safer to look for the logo of your credit card or check with them before ordering a service.

Most banks are open from Monday to Friday between 08h00 and 16h00. On Saturdays and Sundays banks are closed. Most hotels do not accept travellers cheques for payment of their accounts or for cash. You can cash travellers cheques at banks.

Electricity

The voltage in Hungary is 220 Volts. Round European style two-pin plugs are used. Appliances designed to operate on 110/120V need a voltage converter and a plug adapter for two-prong, round-prong plugs with side grounding contacts.
