Dr. Yamaguchi's Friendly Tips in Writing a Scientific Paper

  • Start writing the paper when you begin to set up the input file(s), or when you decide to do the investigation
  • Start writing the paper from the part that is easiest for you.
  • Fill in the spaces in the table(s) whenever the result(s) become(s) available.
  • Keep all final outputs involving:
    1. optimized geometries
    2. harmonic vibrational frequencies
    3. IR intensities
    4. dipole moments
    5. etc.
    until the paper is published
  • Check all information appearing in the paper at least three times. If you have a coauthor, have them check information over.
    1. information above
    2. basis sets description
    3. number CSF's
    4. C1 value
    5. t1 value
  • Try to work on multiple projects, if possible.
